In 1856, master hat maker Ferdinand Fischer founded a felt factory in Pegau (Saxony), which quickly developed into a sought-after manufacturer of felt slippers, walking shoes, felt boots, travel shoes, and leather house shoes.

After the founder's death, his son Paul Fischer took over the thriving company in 1897, which by then already employed 900 people.
