1856
Founded in 1856 by master hat maker Ferdinand Fischer in Pegau (Saxony) as a felt factory, our family business soon developed into a sought-after shoe manufacturer of felt slippers, promenade shoes, felt boots, travel shoes, and leather house slippers.
1897
In 1897, after the death of the founder Ferdinand Fischer, his son Paul Fischer took over the company, which already had 900 employees.
1914-1945
From 1914 to 1945, the two world wars and the period in between caused considerable difficulties for the shoe factory. In 1944, the shoe factory was even destroyed in a bombing raid. Nevertheless, production continued.
1946
In 1946, the company was expropriated without compensation as part of the nationalization and converted into "Volkseigene Betriebe" (publicly owned enterprises).
1949
But the family did not give up. In 1949, Ferdinand Fischer KG, formerly Pegauer Filzwaren, was founded in Schneverdingen by Paul Fischer's son Herbert Fischer and his sons Joachim and Manfred Fischer.
1985
In 1985, the "Fischer Markenschuh" label was introduced – with the motto that still holds true today: "Quality Born of Tradition."
1991
In 1991, Klaus and Michael Fischer, the fifth generation of the family, took over the management.
2015
In 2015, Matthias Fischer became managing director, succeeding his father Michael Fischer, who now shares responsibility for the company with Klaus Fischer.
